Product Review: Chocolate PB2

I received my order of Chocolate PB2 in the mail today.

PB2 is a powdered peanut butter product. It contains slow-roasted peanuts, sugar and salt, and is made by pressing out all the oil until peanuts become powdered. This has a few benefits: portability, lowered fat content, lowered calorie content, yet still all-natural peanutbutter goodness. It can be reconstituted by mixing it 2:1 with water, or simply used in its powdered form. It is truly one of my favorite “secret weapon” products. I use it in snacks and smoothies, and I keep a jar in my desk at work for those emergency afternoon energy crashes. A spoonful of peanut butter has long been a good way to get a quick bit of protein in, and this is an option to have all the benefit without the super high calories and fat content. Yet it doesn’t taste like the other reduced fat peanut butters I’ve tasted. Once it’s reconstituted, the taste and texture are just like any of the natural peanut butters you can buy – Adams and the like.

Now it comes in Chocolate.

From the Bell Plantation website, Chocolate PB2 is described as, “The same great PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter, but with just enough chocolate to make it a delectable, guilt-free spread when mixed with water. Delicious on graham crackers, fruit, ’salty’ crackers, as cupcake icing, ice cream topping, and in smoothies. These are but a few of the uses for this chocolatey, satisfying treat.”

My boxes arrived this afternoon. It always feels like a long wait for the order, as PB2 is shipped UPS Ground from Georgia. They are still quite a small company, and have been growing to meet the demand for their products, but they still occasionally have some growing pains. I suspect their service will get quicker and quicker over time. I waited about 10 days from the day I ordered it until it came.

I opened the box right away and smelled. It smells like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. My idea of heaven in a jar. I couldn’t believe the nutritional info – seriously? A chocolate-peanut butter treat for 52 calories? OH YEAH. I made some into a smoothie for my dinner. 2T of PB2 Chocolate, 1 scoop whey protein powder, ice and water. It was just like a peanut-butter and chocolate milkshake. Positively delicious. I cannot wait to sprinkle it on bananas or strawberries. This stuff is unbelievably good.

I don’t get anything from posting the link here. If you do decide to order it, if you would be so kind as to add me as your referral (email address aimgrrrl@gmail.com) they will eventually send me a free jar. Thanks!
