Valentine’s Day 2008
We went OUT last weekend for the first time in ages. It was our official celebration of Valentine’s Day, a few days early.
First I got my hair cut by my favorite hairdresser of all time. Got it bobbed off just below my chin in a dramatic a-line. With some bangs. I love it, even if it’s the current trendy cut. Fortunately, my stylist is gifted in making the cut look different on me than on anyone else.
Afterward, we hit up U-Village and had some delicious lunch (and drinks!) at the Ram Brewery. Plenty liquored up, we went over to Sephora and got me some treats. I got some makeup primer, eyeshadow primer, and a lovely, lovely new perfume that makes me smell simply delicious, which was my Valentine’s gift.
We also went to Something Silver and got each other a gift. Luis got me a beautiful amber necklace for an early birthday present, and we got one another rings. We’ve both gotten a little err… “fluffier”… in the last few years, and our old rings no longer fit.
After our first shopping spree, we went to Old Navy and each got a new outfit to wear out and about.
This is what we looked like:

Stopped by home and got ourselves all dapper, and headed out to The Rose.
We hadn’t been there in a couple of years at least. Funny thing is, we met there about 5 years ago. And last Saturday night we sat at the table where we met, and had a few drinks.
The best parts of the day happened there.
First, when Luis went to get me a drink, some chick TOTALLY hit on him! He was standing at the bar, and as soon as he walked up there, a girl followed him up there. She was kindof a hippie girl with a lavender bandanna on. She was flirting up a storm and he didn’t even notice. I could see it from across the room… the hair twirl, the big smile, the batting eyes. Oh yeah she was laying it on thick. He came back to the table and suddenly sort of realized… “wait, did I just get hit on?” I had to laugh. It was really adorable. He just doesn’t realize that he’s become a very handsome man.
A little later, he had a run-in with our waitress. She was a really gorgeous alternative sort. Couple of piercings, tall and curvy. Curly hair. Tattoos. Yeah, she was gorgeous. So Luis had been busing our table himself. At some point the waitress came over just as he was standing up, and she stood directly in front of him. She said “so how are you two doing over here?” He said “We’re good. I was just going to take this up to the bar…” indicating the glass in his hand. She stepped closer, so she was face-to-face with him and didn’t say a word. He went silent. And then began to stammer… “uh. uh… errr… did… uhhh… did you want to take it?” She just stood there and laughed, and then got really quiet, standing her ground right in front of him, and said, “do you WANT me to?” He got more and more flustered, and she was clearly enjoying it. Toying with her power. Eventually, she took the glass, laughed, tossed her head and sauntered off. He was still standing there going “uhhhhhh….”
Yep, that’s my guy. The smooth talking ladies man. Of course I have no right to laugh, as I thoroughly enjoyed sending him up to the bar to order me “a long island iced tea… with a cherry!” (which is when the girl hit on him and the bartender laughed at him) Even better, the bartender made the drink so one could not taste the alcohol at all, and winked at him and said “good luck” like he was on a first date and trying to get laid. Little did he know. Apparently we still come off as a new couple, not as a couple of old fogies who’ve been together for 3+ years.
We walked to Babeland to walk off some of the alcohol, and got Luis HIS Valentine’s Day gift. And then we went home and played with our new gifts.
