Childhood Hilarity

Work has been CRAZY lately. However, the good news is that with all the changes there are a lot of good opportunities.

I was just thinking about my best childhood friend, Amanda.

When we were about 7 we methodically and intentionally drove my mom right over the edge.

My little brother was about 5 and had just learned to gulp air and burp. He was dancing around the kitchen burping repeatedly. My mom was trying to cook dinner. Finally she got the big scary eyes and red face and she started to threaten, “So help me if you burp one more time….”

I don’t even remember the threat, but it was too good to pass up. So we went in the back room (where we used to have our sleepovers and my dad would tuck us in saying “I don’t want to hear any noise. Not so much as a mouse fart!”) and we took a tape recorder and recorded a giant burp. Then we put the tape in my boombox and put it on full volume, with the record button on. Parked in the family room, just outside the kitchen door, we played it. Loudly. And mom turned around and backhanded my brother. For years, I hung on to that tape. *buuuurp* SMACK! “Waaaaah! It wasn’t me!”

She rarely hit, in fact I can count my spankings on one hand. That day she was just DONE. Oh god, I’m in tears laughing just thinking about it. How terrible a sister and daughter am I? But god that was funny.

So what triggered the memory was this website: http://www.finslippy.com/finslippy/
The mom is just so brutally HONEST about her parenting screw-ups. And it’s hilarious. About 4 posts down, she has one where folks wrote in with THEIR worst stories. Some of them are just sad. Others are seriously pee-in-your-pants funny. I highly recommend.
