Back on Track for 2008
I’m not going to call it a diet, cuz it’s not. It’s how I am supposed to be eating all the time, forever, because I simply FEEL BETTER when I eat properly.
I slacked over the holidays and I have really felt “off.” Just not paying attention. And I’ve gained weight, thought that’s more a symptom of the overall not eating right issue. The weight is not the issue in and of itself.
So yesterday I got back on track, bought some of my staples for eating right – oatmeal, low fat yogurt, etc.
I like to have my “special” oatmeal in the mornings. It’s 2/3 oats and 1/3 a multi grain mix I made with millet, flaxseed, sunflower seeds, cracked wheat, etc. It’s got about 12 different whole grains in it. I cook those together with about a cup of frozen mixed berries and a tablespoon of real maple syrup, and it’s filling and delicious. Some days I add a half cup of soy milk after it’s cooked, some days I eat it plain. I can make up a batch at the beginning of the week and have a cup a day. Yummy.
I’m still trying to reconcile the side of me that hates the concept of dieting and our fat=bad culture with the side of me that needs to do this, but I think the upshot is really that I’m figuring out what makes me feel healthy, and whether or not I lose weight in the end, I will be a healthier person.
